Professional Mohs’ Concrete Hardness Tester Kit

Quickly determine the approximate hardness of a concrete slab before selecting your diamond tooling. The Mohs’ Concrete Hardness Tester Kit uses graduated scratch picks to help identify surface hardness directly on the jobsite, taking the guesswork out of choosing the proper diamond bond.

Knowing your concrete hardness before grinding can improve cutting performance, reduce unnecessary diamond wear, and help you select the right tooling for the slab.

Key Features

  • Test concrete hardness onsite: Quickly estimate the Mohs hardness of a concrete surface before grinding.
  • Choose the right diamond bond: Helps determine whether a soft, medium, or hard bond diamond tool is best suited for the slab.
  • Reduce tooling wear: Proper bond selection can improve diamond exposure and extend tooling life.
  • Simple scratch test: No electronic equipment or complicated setup required.
  • Portable storage case: Keeps the testing picks protected, organized, and ready for the jobsite.
  • Ideal for professional surface prep: A useful diagnostic tool for concrete grinders, polishing contractors, coating installers, and restoration professionals.

Applications

Ideal for testing concrete before grinding, coating removal, polishing, epoxy installation, surface preparation, and other diamond tooling applications.

Concrete hardness plays an important role in diamond selection:

Hard concrete → typically requires a softer bond diamond
Soft concrete → typically requires a harder bond diamond

How to Use

  1. Choose a test pick and firmly scratch an inconspicuous area of clean, exposed concrete.
  2. Work through the different hardness levels until you identify the pick that scratches the concrete and the next harder pick that does not.
  3. Use that range to estimate the concrete’s Mohs hardness.
  4. Match the concrete hardness to the appropriate diamond tooling and bond for your grinder.

Pro Tip: Always test multiple areas of the slab. Concrete hardness can vary across the same floor due to finishing methods, curing conditions, aggregate, and previous surface wear.

Mohs testing provides an approximate measurement of surface hardness and is intended as a field guide for tooling selection.
